Fan-Favorite Summer Adventures in Hocking Hills

Are you looking for exciting summer adventures? We’ve outlined some of our favorite summer activities so you can experience the best of summer in the Hocking Hills! Hocking Hills’ abundance of attractions can be challenging to narrow down where to go—check out these local’s top five:

1.    Hocking Hills State Park

It’s pretty hard to visit the Hocking Hills and not visit the state park system and one of our favorite spots is Rock House. The tunnel-like corridor is situated midway up a 150-foot cliff of Blackhand sandstone … it’s quite incredible! And, even though there are several parks within the state park system, Rock House is still one of our favorites.

2.    Hockhocking Adena Bikeway

If it’s more activity you’re looking for, head to the Hockhocking Adena Bikeway. It’s located on the old Columbus and Hocking Valley Railroad bed. The paved recreation trail is a 19-mile trip from Nelsonville to Athens, which is sure to get your heart pumping (also perfect for walking, rollerblading, or other non-motorized forms of transportation). Bring your own bike or rent one from one of the local establishments. If you don’t want to do the entire 19-mile journey, just go as far as you can and turn around.

3.    Wahkeena Preserve

Another less-traveled spot is Wahkeena Preserve. The Wahkeena Preserve is named after an Indian word that means “most beautiful.” It’s located on the edge of Hocking Hills and six miles south of Lancaster. Wahkeena is owned by the Ohio Historical Society. This 150-acre nature preserve features sandstone cliffs (part of the famous Black Hand sandstone), and has mostly tulip trees and oak, as well as over 100 species of birds, along with a nature center.

4.    Witten’s Produce Cart

With its abundance of fresh produce, Witten’s produce cart should not be overlooked—and is a typical weekly & locally visited attraction. The closest is located in downtown Logan and they have the best corn, by far!

5.    Hocking Hills Canopy Tours

Although the Hocking Hills Canopy Tours is known for its zip line course, be sure to try the super zip; however, we really like and prefer the Off-Road Segway Adventure Tour. It’s a uniquely guided tour and we highly recommend it!

No matter what you choose to do while visiting, you’ll have a fantastic time with these summer adventures in Hocking Hills. And to complete your summer vacation, book your stay at Glenlaurel!
