Hocking Hills Festivals

So Many Choices…

Are you are a fan of small town festivals with local fare and “fair food” concessions everywhere you look, vendors selling anything and everything in their booths, arcade games, and little town happenings?  Three local festivals will be held in May and both are less than an hour’s drive from the Glenlaurel Inn.

The New Straitsville Moonshine Festival is from May 21 through May 25 in New Straitsville, OH. This little town was founded by the New Straitsville Mining Company in 1870. When the mining business came to a halt years ago because of management/miner strife the moonshining business took over. New Straitsville is 31 minutes east from the Glenlaurel Inn on OH 93 N. http://hockinghills.com/events/May-21-2015_Moonshine_Festival.html

Vinton County Wild Turkey Festival is from May 7 through May 10 in McArthur, OH. Of note is the Quilt Show presented by Country Roads Quilt Guild. The show will be held at the United Methodist Church, Fri. 1-7pm, Sat. 10-7pm, and Sun. 12:30-4pm. The quilt show theme this year is “The Old and The New.” McArthur, OH is 42 minutes southeast from the Glenlaurel Inn on OH 93 S. https://sites.google.com/site/countryroadsquiltguild/

The Nelsonville Music Festival is from May 28 through May 31 in Nelsonville, OH. This 4-day music event is held annually and supports the arts community and functions of the historic Stuart Opera House.  Nelsonville is 25 minutes southeast from the Glenlaurel Inn on US 33 E. https://nelsonvillefest.org/

If the theatre is more your cup of tea, ABC Players is presenting “Arsenic and Old Lace” at Stuart’s Opera House May 14 – May 16 at 8 p.m. and May 17 at 2 p.m. Written by Joseph Kesselring and directed by James Euto, meet the charming and innocent ladies who populate their cellar with the remains of socially and religiously “acceptable” roomers.

Kindly remember that our accommodations fill up quickly!  Reserve your favorite accommodation early and let a sigh of relief begin your sojourn at Glenlaurel.
