Glenlaurel’s Traditional Scottish Scones Recipe

Our Glenlaurel Traditional Scottish Scones have been a breakfast staple at our Inn for as long as we can remember. You’ve devoured them and raved about them – now you can make them at home!

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 tablespoons sugar
  • ½ pound cold butter, cut into cubes
  • 1 cup dried fruit
  • 1 ½ cup buttermilk
  • Sugar

Preparation

Preheat oven to 400°. Combine the flour, baking powder, salt and sugar in electric mixer. Using the paddle attachment, mix in the butter and mix just until coated with flour. Add the dried fruit. With the mixer set on low speed, add buttermilk and mix until just absorbed. Stop mixing when the dough begins to pull away from the sides of the bowl.

Scrape the dough from the bowl and divide it into two balls. Cut the balls into 6 equal pieces. Brush with buttermilk and sprinkle with sugar. Bake until golden brown for about 30 minutes.

Enjoy!
