Easy Summer Recipe – Refreshing Lavender Lemonade

Step away from the soda – here’s a simple and delicious summer drink that will delight young and old! The floral spiciness of the lavender adds a whole new layer to this beloved summer refreshment.

Ingredients:
2 qt water
2 cups sugar
Juice of 10 lemons
1-4 tbps food grade lavender buds

1. Create a simple syrup to sweeten the lemonade.
Melt 2 cups of sugar and 2 cup of water together in a pan over low heat. When fully melted and incorporated, remove from heat and set aside.

2. Juice the lemons into your pitcher, using a sieve.
If you do not have a juicer, you can do this by hand using a fork and some good old-fashioned elbow grease: Halve the lemon, cup the rind in your hand, pierce the fruit and twist! The seeds and the majority of the pulp will be caught by the sieve.

3. Add your water, simple syrup, and lavender, to taste.
We recommend about 2 quarts of water and a cup of simple syrup, but let your sweet (and sour!) tooth be your guide. Once the lemonade is perfect, add your lavender. We usually add between 2-3 tbps of the buds at Glenlaurel for a strong, but not overwhelming, lavender flavor.

4. Stir, Cover, Store
Stir the liquids together, cover with the lid of the pitcher or plastic wrap, and put in your fridge. Give the mixture at least a few hours to let the lavender seep into the lemonade – overnight is best.

5. Strain & Serve!
Using your cleaned sieve, pour the lemonade into a fresh pitcher. The sieve catches the lavender, and you’re left with a delicious, flavorful beverage to serve over ice!

Adults Only: Add 1 fl. oz. shot of your favorite Vodka or Whiskey (like Jack Daniels Tennessee Honey) to your glass before pouring your lavender lemonade for an elegant cocktail. Sláinte!
